When Is It a Plumbing or HVAC Emergency?
Certain water-related problems require corrective action but are not generally considered to be critical in nature – a water faucet that still drips even when turned off, a toilet tank that seems to “top itself off” in frequent intervals, or a garbage disposal in your sink that makes more noise than it used to.
These scenarios may be annoying (who doesn’t hate the constant “drip, drip” of a leaky faucet?), but they do not require immediate attention. To be sure, you’ll want to address these issues soon to save money on utility bills and calm your nerves. But they are not emergencies.
Other scenarios, however, are of the utmost urgency and require immediate attention:
- If your furnace fails in the middle of winter, that can be a major problem.
- When a pipe in your bathroom bursts and you have a geyser filling the room with water, help can’t come soon enough.
- Should your sump pump refuse to cooperate with an oversaturation of the water table after a healthy spring shower, you need help sooner rather than later.
